How I Work

COLLABORATION
I work in collaboration with you to help you identify your needs and goals and I aim to empower and support you in finding your own solutions to your difficulties.

NON-JUDGEMENT
During sessions, I try to create a calm, relaxed, safe and non-judgemental environment. I aim to practise “unconditional positive regard” for my clients.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Everything that we talk about, from the first phone call, is treated as strictly confidential.

SUPERVISION
I have regular supervision sessions with an experienced colleague. This helps me to ensure that I work ethically, objectively and as effectively as possible.

CODE OF ETHICS
I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics.


CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

My main therapeutic approach is CBT which is widely accepted as an evidence-based, cost-effective psychotherapy for many disorde. CBT addresses negative thoughts and unhelpful behaviours in order to change the way we feel and so gain greater balance in life.


Mindfulness

Is the art of living in the present with full awareness and can be a powerful therapeutic aid. Many of the difficulties people face can be addressed with a mindful attitude as this can bring a sense of balance and tranquillity in their lives. After an initial treatment with CBT, Mindfulness can help to consolidate what was achieved and thus prevent relapses. As I am learning and practicing Mindfulness, I am increasingly introducing it into my practice.


Compassionate or Non-Violent Communication

Is the art of respecting and expressing your feelings and needs as well as requesting what you would like to change, whilst at the same time respecting the other person and being aware of their feelings, needs and wants. I teach this form of communication to help improve relationships in couples, with children, in the family and at work. This can also be a major tool in dealing with conflicts.

I offer appointments in Bath and Frome, Somerset. I can do home visits in some specific cases. I am able to run workshops anywhere in the country. Please call for details.

Telephone Counselling

Is offered as an alternative for those unable to have face to face appointments. This can be done via a landline number or via Skype, which also offers the option of video. Telephone appointments can be arranged by e-mail or by a short initial call. They are priced according to duration by mutual agreement.
Payments can be made by Paypal, bank transfer or cheque.


Cost

£40 per 50-60 min session.
£60 per 90 min sessions.

A standard session is 50-60 min. Couple counselling and family therapy may sometimes require 90 min. First appointments, though normally 90 min long, are charged as standard 1 hour sessions.

Reduced rates: I offer up to 50% discount to students, the unemployed and those on low income, in order to make counselling affordable to all.


Availability for Appointments

I am available most weeks 8.00-21.00, Mon-Sat, depending on location. I will aim to accommodate your needs as far as possible. Please ring for details.
