How I Work
Collaboration
I work in collaboration with you to help you identify your needs and goals and I aim to empower and support you in finding effective solutions to your difficulties.
Non-judgement
During sessions, I try to create a calm, relaxed, safe and non-judgemental environment. I aim to practise “unconditional positive regard” for my clients.
Confidentiality
Everything that we talk about, from the first phone call, is treated as confidential.
Supervision
I have regular supervision sessions with an experienced colleague. This helps me to ensure that I work ethically, objectively and as effectively as possible.
Code of Ethics
I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics.
Duration and Frequency
Counselling and psychotherapy sessions usually last about an hour and are spaced to meet your needs, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The duration of counselling is always very personal and this is usually discussed during the initial assessment and reviewed as appropriate. In most cases it is short term, 1–12 sessions. Occasionally, in more complex cases, more sessions might be recommended.
First Appointment
An initial consultation will allow me to learn about you, your particular situation and your issues. I will then make an assessment which I will discuss with you. A mutual decision will then be made about whether we would like to work together and, if so, an agreement will be made concerning what you wish to achieve and how to work towards that. When possible, I like to allow 80 min for this first appointment to ensure that we cover everything carefully.
For Whom?
I provide counselling and coaching to adults and young people, to groups, couples and families. I speak English, Portuguese and French fluently and I can understand Spanish.
Availability for Appointments
I am available most weeks 8.00-21.00, Mon-Sat, depending on location. I will aim to accommodate your needs as far as possible and I usually can offer you an appointment wthin 24 h. Please ring for details.
Cancellations
If you do not attend or cancel a session with less than 24h notice, full payment is due. If you cancel a session with less than one week's notice and we cannot arrange an alternative time during the same week, then I will ask you to pay for the missed appointment. I may waive this charge in very exceptional circumstances beyond our control.
